District Band Shoutout
We’re so proud of all our Marshall Band students who auditioned for All-District Band last Saturday, January 10! Our students worked tremendously hard to prepare for this event, and we are so proud of the manner in which they represented Marshall Band. Holiday Concerts
Hip Hip Hooray for Holiday Concerts!
GCM Wind Symphony students, Lily Batman and Ashley Thompson, performed as members of the AYPO’s Chamber Flute Ensemble, and Kian Eradat (percussion) and Ashley Thompson (flute/piccolo) performed as members of the American Youth Philharmonic (AYP) orchestra!
Both performances took place on Dec. 15th at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria, Virginia.

LSYO concert
Bravo to Marshall band student Eliza Fischer on her stellar performance as a member of the Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, November 15, 2025. This was the first of three LSYO concerts of the 2025-26 season!

AYPO Concert
Congratulations to Marshall band students Emily Ackerman, Xan Malcov, Nicky Dierbeck, and Lee Vanstory for their first stage performance of the season on Monday, November 10 with the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras at the Rachel Schlessinger Concert Hall in Alexandria, Virginia!
Emily (clarinet) and Xan (bassoon) performed in the concert orchestra, and Nicky & Lee both performed with the percussion section in the symphonic orchestra! For more information on upcoming AYPO concerts, visit https://www.aypo.org

Marshall Students Attend JMU SUMMER BAND CAMPS
This summer, the following Marshall Band students attended JMU BAND CAMPS to participate in marching band camp, colorguard camp, concert band camp, and drum major camp: Bug Myung, Charlie Ites, Emma Katz, Alex Stenseth (instructor), Miri Brooke, Charli Kraft, Emily Ackerman, Ashley Thompson, and Lydia Wilder! We're so proud of each of you and how well you represented GCM Band!
MARSHALL BAND STUDENTS PERFORM ACROSS EUROPE
Congratulations to the 7 Marching Statesmen who traveled to Europe for two weeks this summer and performed in 5 cities as a part of the Virginia Ambassadors of Music program. Anoosh Balakrishnan, Eliza Fischer, Caroline Johnston, Nathaniel Ni, Alex Nissan, Evan Roehl, and Lee Vanstory represented Marshall High School with pride in France, Switzerland, Germany, The Czech Republic, and Austria! What a great way to experience different parts of the world and share in a love of music with fellow musicians—at the same time!

Congratulations to GCM band members Lukas Orozco, Noah Shea, Mateo Stine, Ashley Thompson, and Ryan Viskupic for qualifying to audition for All-Virginia Band & Orchestra! Auditions will be held this Saturday, February 22 at James Madison University. Wishing you all the best of luck!
Competition Celebration!
Congratulations to freshman GCM Band member, Emily Ackerman, who was awarded 3rd place in the intermediate division (Grades 9-10) for her clarinet performance of Mozart’sConcerto in A Major, Mvt. II at the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association Woodwind Concerto Competition and Festival on Saturday, February 15, 2024! Well done, Emily!
Percussion Performance Pride
GCM freshman percussionist, Alessio Pipia has represented Marshall HS in the South Lakes Combined Indoor Drumline playing marimba this winter. The team has achieved a 1st place and a 2nd place finish in their last two competitions.
The next competition is this Saturday, Feb 22 at Woodgrove HS in Purcellville, VA. There is also an upcoming performance on March 15th at Serrano HS, and the season ends on March 30th at the AIA North Championship in Hampton, VA.

2025 All-District Band for District XII Results
CPlease join us in extending a well-earned Congratulations to the following GCM Band students who, as a result of their audition this past Saturday, have been selected to participate in 2025 All-District Band for District XII.
We are excited to report that, among all participating high schools within District XII, Marshall High School had the third-highest number of participants selected for participation in All-District Band this year! Way to go, Marshall Band musicians!
